The festive season has officially begun. Often we label it as “the silly season” because of the amount of folly that abounds. It is nice to let our hair down and relax with friends and family but we would like to use the opportunity to reflect on something really important. Operating in the territory that we do, we believe that we are not here only to practise law or offer legal services; we want to further the cause of justice.
One of the stories we have been most inspired by this year is that of a wine farm called Solms-Delta. It’s a story that includes a number of different aspects, born out of a proper understanding of their history, which in turn has brought about true empowerment and creative opportunities. For Solms-Delta it has affected housing, education, employment opportunities, local music traditions and, of course, running a business together. An important attitude that comes through is that if we want to do genuine transformation, it may be hard at times but it is not impossible. Each of us has a “citizen-sized” opportunity to do something.
In this, our last newsletter of the year, we hope that the Solms-Delta story (which can be viewed by clicking here) will inspire you, as it has us, and may it galvanise us all to seek justice in whichever sphere we operate.
